Pink yellow white Forever New Aurelie Satchel

0

While browsing through the collection of handbags on Polyvore I came across a pink yellow and white bag that I found too cute not to try to build a set around.

The bag is the pink white and yellow Aurelie Satchel from Forever New.

I don’t know that I would ever have occasion to use this bag or that it is even suitable for use by anyone over the age of 16; but I can still like the look of the bag even if I’d never have use for it.

This is not a high end designer brand handbag but by comparison to some of the alternatives that are made it at least makes an effort to be stylish.

Pink Yellow White

I’m guessing a pink yellow white outfit isn’t something you can get away with wearing if you’re over the age of sixteen. I don’t know I’m just supposing that these three colors aren’t often mixed together. I could be completely off the mark with that supposition but with pink being considered a more girly barbie personality color and yellow being considered generally too bright and white having a reputation for not being all occasion suitable I’d think fashion experts would advise against combining the three; but personally I like the look of the three colors together.

I guess winter wouldn’t be the season for an outfit like the above although frankly I don’t think people should just blindly go along with arbitrary ideas like there being right and wrong colors for a season; but based on those arbitrary ideas this outfit would probably be more Spring or Summer appropriate.

Styling in my Purple Alpaca wool blend coat

0

purple alpaca wool blend coat white cotton top wrinkled lambskin bag black lamb skin ankle boots printed pencil skirt
Untitled #79 by zenica featuring a double breasted jacket

I don’t have a Purple Alpaca wool blend coat to style in. I came across a purple alpaca wool blend coat on Polyvore and decided to create a set around it.

The coat in question is from Balenciaga. It is a double breasted style coat that I’m assuming is 100% wool. Couldn’t find confirmation of that on the product description page. Did find details about the composition of the lining but it’s rather confusing because it has two sets of data. One says the lining is 20% silk 13%  polyamide and the other says the lining is 71% acetate 3% wool and 84% alpaca.

Nothing there appears to be adding up to 100% to me but what do I know?

As stated the set above features a purple alpaca wool blend coat. The coat comes with a $1 425 price tag.

Also included in the set is a white cotton top also from Balenciaga. The top comes with a $535 price tag. It’s described as a “front fold top”” which features a straight neckline and capped sleeves (top),.

The bag is a wrinkled lambskin bag another Balenciaga item. It comes with a $1,545 price tag. (bag),

The ankle booties are $631. They are Balenciaga black lamb skin ankle boots with a 3.9 inch heel. (boots),

The skirt yet another Balenciaga item is a $740 printed pencil skirt with a tweed knit pattern in pink and black python print (skirt),

The featured outfit would cost you a total of $4,876 to obtain. More power to you if you can afford to spend five thousand dollars on a single outfit.

Assignment

Create a set on polyvore that is meant to be an affordable alternative to Untitled #79

The Set

sleeveless white blouse Mango Planet Ruby Port Pea Coat purple coat L.K.Bennett Rhea Wool Blanket Check Skirt Timeless black platform booties Bakers Bologna Xiii Handbag

I’m not sure this would exactly qualify as “affordable” given that the jacket and the skirt are both over $200; but here is the alternative set to the above Balenciaga outfit.

This set features a sleeveless white blouse from Mango which comes with a $50 price tag” a $230 Planet Ruby Port Pea Coat (purple coat),” a $235 L.K.Bennett Rhea Wool Blanket Check Skirt ( skirt),” a $55 pair of  Timeless black platform booties” a $59 Bakers Bologna Xiii Handbag (Bakers shoulder bag),.

Total for the above items: $629

By all means if you can afford the Balenciaga and that’s what you want go for it. You deserve to have what you want; but if Balenciaga is out of budget you can achieve a similar look for $4″ 247 fewer dollars.

$25 260 diamond earrings with $39 shoes?

0

My original question was going to be “Can you wear $39 shoes with a $240 dress?”; then I realized the earrings I had selected for the set I created on Polyvore tonight are $25″ 260 diamond earrings. So I am asking instead “Can you wear $25” 260 diamond earrings with a pair of $39 shoes?

My guess is that the woman who has in her possession diamond earrings that came with a $25 260 price tag does not have a pair of $39 shoes in her closet.

The set I put together on Polyvore tonight was built around a $240 Michael Kors zebra print dress. The shoes I selected a pair of vegan suede booties with metallic studs on the back were selected because they go perfectly with the dress.

It’s something to snob a pair of shoes because they only cost $39. For some women myself included at the present time thirty-nine dollars is hard to come by; but I get that for other women the ones who can afford $25 260 diamond earrings particularly it would be embarrassing to even look at a pair of $39 shoes. But let’s just say some such person  who owns $25 260 diamond earrings also has a pair of $39 shoes in her closet. Would she ever be wearing the $25,260 diamond earrings and the $39 shoes at the same time. I don’t think so. That would be a major fashion crime; but who knows?

Here is the set I put together on Polyvore tonight.

Michael Kors knee length dress Charlotte Russe ankle booties stud detail Cow leather studded clutch Cezanne Crystal cuff bracelet a Black Bow Pocket Coat Asprey diamond hoop earrings.

The set includes a Michael Kors knee length dress which comes with a $240 price tag. The set also includes a pair of  / Charlotte Russe ankle booties with stud detail on the back. These are the $39 shoes in question. Also included is a Zara 100% Cow leather studded clutch which costs $100″ a $38 Cezanne Crystal cuff bracelet a Black Bow Pocket Coat and the aforementioned $25,260 Asprey diamond hoop earrings.

Troopa lace up boots for Friday

0

I came across these Steve Madden boots this morning while updating another website and was inspired to head over to Polyvore to build a set around them. I’ll still need to build another set around these boots for the other website; but this first set I’ve done I’ll share here.

The set features the Troopa lace up boots in black and the Troopa lace up boots in  brown/tan with two separate outfit ideas.

The first outfit includes a black and white checkered shirt with a Mango leather biker jacket a pair of Rock & Roll Cowgirl Women’s Low Rise Skinny Jeans with Patch Back Pockets and an Alexander Wang Diego Bucket Bag.

The second outfit includes the same pair of Rock & Roll Cowgirl Women’s Low Rise Skinny Jeans a roll neck long sleeved grey cashmere sweater from DSquared2 a Ted Baker sherling collar leather jacket in brown and a Claramonte Alicante braided leather tote.

Checkered shirt” $200 / Dsquared turtleneck top” $590 / Ted Baker genuine leather jacket” $695/ Mango genuine leather jacket” $260 / Super skinny jeans” $36/ Steve Madden lace up platform boots” $99 / CLARAMONTE genuine leather handbag” $545 / Alexander Wang handbag” $850

Steve Madden Troopa black leather

Seller Description: “These black leather combat boots feature a lace-up shaft and inside zipper. Pair with black leggings and long sleeve plaid shirt for an effortlessly chic finish! Purchase via couturecandy.com $99.99

I’m thinking it’s probably a fashion crime to wear jeans that cost $36 and shoes that cost $99 while every other apparel item in your ensemble costs at least $200.

The above might not be what your everyday fashionesta would wear but it’s something I would wear. Admittedly I’d be wearing the cheap alternatives of everything.

The Claramonte genuine leather bag was probably not the best pick for the headless girl in the brown jacket but it was taking too long to find the perfect bag. I wanted something like a tote that she could carry in her hand and I wanted a bag that wasn’t just a single solid color. Her turtleneck is actually a multi colored top with some red navy yellow turquoise blue and brown stripes of varying thickness or maybe I should follow the lead of the description and refer to them as “bands” instead of stripes.

Random musings

They say if at first you don’t succeed try and try again but what about if you’ve tried and tried again and tried and tried again and tried again and again and again and again and still come up empty? How do you tell the difference between determined will and sheer insanity in refusing to face the reality that you are never going to succeed?

Pink Alexander McQueen Strapless gown

0

In my life there aren’t occasions to wear gowns that cost $3 440. I guess it makes sense. If you can’t afford a $3 440 gown then there shouldn’t be occasions in your life that call for you to wear a $3 440 gown.

I came across a $3 440 Alexander McQueen gown on Polyvore today and decided to build a set around it. The gown is long and flowing fuchsia and strapless with an additional list of features that include a gathered back drape a softly draped train a ruched top a sweetheart-neckline a hidden back zipper internal wired stretch mesh corset underwire support and structured bra cups with removable padding. It is a fully lined 100% silk dress. The lining is 74% Acetate and 26% Silk. When even the lining is silk even if only 26% silk you know you’re going to be spending some dollars.

To be honest I probably would not wear this dress myself because I don’t have the breasts for it but it’s a lovely dress and if money was no object I would probably buy it just to have it for those days when I feel like getting dressed up and taking pictures of myself; but “no object” would have to mean I have a money tree in my possession that is guaranteed never to die and that sprouts at least a hundred thousand in leaves per day. Did I say leaves? I mean dollars of course.

Here is the polyvore set I built around the pink Alexander McQueen strapless gown. I don’t know what to say about the finished set. If things hold true to form no one will like it; but that’s cool. I enjoyed making it. It was good art therapy.
10182012914
10182012914 by zenica featuring ankle strap sandals

The jewelry” shoes and accessories featured in the set include a pair of Yves Saint Laurent ankle strap sandals which cost $1,190. The shoulder bag is a Marchesa clutch purse covered with mother-of-pearl paillettes and accented with Swarovski crystals. The  clutch purse costs more than the dress. It comes with a price tag of $3,495.  The necklace is a Valentino necklace with large platinum finish studs that are covered in micro strass. It costs $1,545. The bracelet is an Olivia Collings Antique silver and rose gold bangle. It costs $2″ 165.

We’re looking at over $10 000 that you’ll need if you want to get these items not necessarily to wear together of course as I’m sure the outfit I’ve put together is more likely to end up featured in some article about the worst virtual outfits ever built around an Alexander McQueen evening dress.

The Yves Saint Laurent ankle strap sandals are really nice but the more I look at them the more I have to wonder if shoes should ever cost this kind of money. It seems a little ridiculous frankly; but I guess the whole point and why designer shoes are priced as high as they are is that enough of the women who can afford it are willing to spend that kind of money of shoes.

Olive Burberry bag vs red Gianfranco Ferre Bag

The red bag or the olive?

Scene:

Scarlett is getting ready to go out.

She has put together an outfit that is comprised of a $240 Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Scale Jacket in red tartan an $805 Donna Karan black gathered jersey turtleneck a $530 pair of True Religion Stella Super T Last Stan skinny jeans and a pair of $1 250 Jimmy Choo Mirage leather knee boots.

She has brought out her olive Burberry bag and her red Gianfranco Ferre bag. She’s trying to decide which one to take along.

While Scarlett is busy contemplating each bag the bags get into an argument which of course Scarlett cannot hear because she is human and humans cannot hear the conversations of the inanimate objects around them except when they are high on some type of hallucinogenic drug. Scroll down below images to read the story.

Olive Burberry Bag

(speaking to red bag in a hoity toity British accent),

You know she’s going to pick me don’t you?

Red bag stares at olive bag but says nothing.

Olive Burberry Bag

No offense but you don’t really go with the outfit she’s planning to wear. You’re a little too–hmm how to say–glaringly red?

Red bag continues to stare at Olive bag saying nothing.

Olive bag gets quiet for a moment but then she starts up again.

Olive Burberry Bag

You have a really maddening way about you do you know that?

Red bag still says nothing

Olive Burberry Bag

The nerve of you thinking you’re so special. How much do you cost? What $399? And how much do I cost? That’s right” $1 ,059 which is more than twice what you cost so who’s superior to who huh?

Red Gianfranco Ferre bag

(imitating a British accent),

It’s whom

Olive Burberry Bag

Pardon Me?

Red Gianfranco Ferre bag

You used incorrect grammar. It’s who’s superior to whom not who’s superior to who.

Olive bag hisses

Olive Burberry Bag

What a nerve to be correcting my grammar. I’m British. My grammar is correct by default. My accent makes everything I say right.

Red Gianfranco Ferre bag

Correct

Olive Burberry Bag

Excuse me?

Red Gianfranco Ferre bag

Right is a problematic word to use at the end of that statement. If you wrote that as a sentence the word could be read in the context of everything right that I say which would then confuse the reader as to why there is a full stop when you clearly haven’t finished your thought.

Olive Burberry Bag

You’re full of s**t.

Red Gianfranco Ferre bag

Actually I’m fully of nothing but balled up crepe paper at the moment; but shortly I will be filled with everything Scarlett plans to take with her when she goes out.

Olive Burberry Bag

We’ll see won’t we?

Red Gianfranco Ferre bag

We surely will

Cut to: 30 minutes later. We see Scarlett walking through the lobby of the posh Manhattan building where she lives. She’s wearing the outfit she had selected to wear but strapped over her shoulder is a black Louis Vuitton Epi Petit Noe bag.

Oscar de la Renta Appliqued Flower Dress

0

Can you really tell a girl by the labels on the clothes in her closet? I don’t think so. You can tell how much money she has. You can tell in what types of department stores you’re likely to find her shopping; but you can’t really tell what kind of person she is inside her heart and soul or her mind though you might be able to guess certain things about her social perspective.

I came across this beautiful Oscar de la Renta Appliqued Flower Dress on Polyvore and decided to put a set together around the dress. The dress is apparently presently sold out. Too bad because I wouldn’t have hesitated to buy it if it had been in stock. Alright okay you know that’s a load of BS. The dress costs $8,540.  Even if it was $85.40 I couldn’t buy it.

The dress is described as a “black and white silk sleeveless dress” with features that include a round neck”,”a patterned mesh yolke” and appliqued flowers all over the entire dress. With the aforementioned $8,540 price tag I’ll assume it’s not a dress for girls who don’t get invitations to affairs such as the Met Ball.

Assignment

Pretend you have money and a life and you’re going out to a gala. You’ll be wearing the Oscar de la Renta black and white silk sleeveless dress. It will be a bit nippy out so you’ll need a coat. You need some nice shoes and a nice bag and a nice necklace. Put together a set showing what you’re going to wear.

The Set – La vie elegante

La vie elegante

There are two coats shown in the set. It’s not meant to suggest that both should be worn but rather that one or the other will be a great choice. The black coat is a double breasted” heavy wool coat by Simone Rocha (double breasted wool coat),. It comes with a $1,324 price tag. The white coat is an ivory techno-wool coat by Valentino (Valentino Wool coat),. It comes with a $3″ 150 price tag. The bag is an ostrich skin studded clutch with a $1,270 price tag (Brachfeld Parlaghy Emmanuelle Medium Ostrich Clutch),. The shoes are Jimmy Choo Kerfield suede and mesh boots($975). The necklace I previously mentioned in Green Burberry coat black Yves Saint Laurent Bag. It is from a set that includes a bracelet and earrings and the price for the whole set is apparently $18″ 000. I guess that speaks for itself.

Idle Thoughts

Polyvore reminds me why in person shopping is never a pleasant experience for me. To shop effectively takes time. You can’t just go in and grab whatever and go. I think being able to shop online is the greatest thing because you can take as much time as you need and I usually need a lot of time which usually means I go home empty handed when I go shopping in the real world because whoever I went shopping with grows impatient with my inability to decide on something to buy.

Floral print skirt blue jacket red blouse

0

It began with a skirt. The skirt was a ruffly tiered little number with a floral print design – a floral print skirt. More specifically it was the “Lucy” floral print miniskirt from Top Shop.

I decided to create a set on Polyvore around this floral print skirt. I was confused when I first dragged and dropped the skirt onto the design board.

“Wait a minute”,” I thought. “Didn’t they say this was a mini skirt?”

The skirt didn’t really look like a mini skirt on the design board. It looked like a full length ruffled tiered floral print skirt. Was there a mistake? I clicked on the picture of the skirt as shown in the items box. That picture showed a mini skirt but on the page that gives additional detail about the skirt the picture looked the same as it looked on my design board like a picture of a long floral print skirt. However in the description it stated that this was a mini skirt. Where was the error? I clicked the link to the store that sells the skirt to see how the skirt looks on their side of things. It looked like a mini skirt. They even had a picture of a mannequin wearing it and the hem fell to about three inches above the knee on the mannequin. So that solved the mystery for me. The skirt was indeed a mini skirt and the reason it looked like a full length skirt  was due to a flaw in the program that preps the images on Polyvore so they can be used with a transparent background. Sometimes the aspect ratio of the images gets messed up by either being too wide or too long. Yawn yawn yeah I know you couldn’t care less about that.

So yeah it began with a skirt; and after the skirt a question. What color top do I want to pretend wear with this floral print skirt from Top Shop? I went shopping for tops and got drawn to a red silk blouse.

“This would make for a nice and colorful outfit I thought.”

I dragged the blouse to the design board.

Next I needed a jacket. I thought to look for a nice black blazer but while looking for a nice black blazer I saw this bright blue Ted Baker Peplum Blazer. I thought to myself no one with any fashion sense would pair a bright red silk blouse with a bright blue blazer but I like this jacket and I think it would look nice with this blouse and this skirt; so I dragged it to the design board.

Next to decide on the shoes and the bag. At first I tried some blue shoes but I thought nah maybe not blue. After trying blue I tried violet. The violet shoes I tried looked okay but something told me to go with black shoes and a red bag so I found some black shoes that seemed to me to go perfectly with the outfit Giuseppe Zanotti leather booties and I found a red bag and voila:

Saune – The Floral Print Skirt

Kate Hudson red Prabal Gurung amFAR Inspiration Gala dress

0

Kate Hudson was recently seen out and about attending a gala in a wickedly low cut floor length body hugging red Prabal Gurung dress. It’s proving difficult to find information on the cost of Kate Hudson’s Prabal Gurung red dress but I think it’s fairly safe to say the dress cost a good few thousand.

The dress is not for women who are short on self confidence. It bares a whole lot of cleavage and it fits snugly on the body so if you tend to get self conscious even if you have the body to pull off this dress you probably wouldn’t want to wear a dress of this particular style.

Couldn’t find any pictures showing the shoes Kate Hudson wore with her dress. The dress is floor length so it covered up her feet; but in some of the photos what looks like something closed toe and gold peeps through.

The photos of Kate Hudson in her red Prabal Gurung dress (link),.

Assignment

Create a red carpet look around Kate Hudson’s Prabal Gurung amFar Inspiration Gala gown

Not much you need to do when wearing a dress like this. Personally I think when your neckline plunges as low as this and you’re showing as much cleavage as Kate is showing” a necklace is not necessary. Kate’s breasts are her accessories.

Here’s what I came up with for the above assignment. It’s more art than fashion. Note: I accidentally created this under the Polyvore account of another website for which I create sets on Polyvore. Oops.

Kate Hudson's red Prabal Gurung Dress

In the set: Lanvin strappy heels ($2,695)/ Metallic snake print Mulberry clutch purse ($1850)/ Asian Sunrise – Vector Graphic by DryIcons the Prabal Gurung dress Kate Hudson wore to the amFar Inspiration Gala on October 11th 2012.

The Lanvin shoes are described as gold studded and crystal embellished snake print heels. The shoes have cut out sides and a round toe shape. The ankle strap fastens with a buckle. The snake print is red ombre python.

The Mulbery bag can be clutched or carried by the handle over the shoulder.

Assignment

Create a casual rainy day in New York outfit around this Calvin Klein Women’s 3/4 single breasted coat

Here is what I came up with for my self imposed assignment.

rainy day in New York

A metallic knit crew neck sweater (Farah chunky sweater), made of Italian yarn that’s been knitted over twice. I’m assuming that’s a special quality for the sweater to possess” being twice knitted over with Italian yarn. This sweater ($495) is worn with a pair of high rise boot cut black jeans from Paige Premium denim (Paige Premium Denim Hidden Hills High Rise Bootcut),. I’ve read that these are “super flattering” and “incredibly comfortable”. The jeans are $295.

Also included in the set are a pair of multicoloured smoked check printed rain boots from Burberry. They come with a $225 price tag. (Burberry Shoes Parkfield Smoked Check Rain Boots),. The bag is Marc by Marc Jacobs Werdie Top Handle Messenger Messenger bag with an adjustable and removable strap. It costs $498 (Marc by Marc Jacobs Werdie Top Handle Messenger),. You can get the black version of this bag for about $100 less on Amazon (link),.

The booties are Burberry Prorsum’s hazelnut suede lace-up platform ankle boots. They cost $1,058. The umbrella is from Burberry and costs $195 (Burberry Trafalgar Packable Check Umbrella),. It’s a cute umbrella. Hopefully you get something more for the price tag than just some nice use of colors and check patterns. Like maybe the ability to stay put in gale force winds? Okay maybe not gale force. An umbrella with that ability would probably come with a price tag in the tens of thousands. Can you imagine someone selling an umbrella for $30000. I wouldn’t be surprised to discover there are indeed umbrellas that retail for that kind of money.

One moment while I google this…

Yup. Not sure how accurate this is but googling “World’s most expensive umbrella” took me to a page titled “World’s Most Expensive Umbrella is $50″,000” on the website Luxist.com. The world’s most expensive umbrella is apparently made of 100% crocodile skin. Check it out. I should probably write to the makers of this umbrella (Billionaire Couture’s London boutique), and ask if it will hold up in gale force winds. For that price I hope it does more than reflect obscene wealth.

Speaking of Billionaire Couture’s London boutique I came across a link to their website and spent a few minutes watching the intro video. For a moment I was tempted to start thinking about the naughty things I wanted to do with their young male models but then it occurred to me that I have absolutely no idea what these dudes are like. They’re ridiculously good looking but that doesn’t mean anything. They are in photo ready make-up with photo ready hair and are impeccably styled and posing. Once you take off the clothes turn off the cameras rustle the hair and remove the make-up all you have is just another man who might be a nice guy or he might be a villain or boring or narcissistic or otherwise not someone you would want to know. You just never know.

That’s the thing about clothes. People can use clothes to convey a message about them that simply isn’t an accurate reflection of who they are in reality.
