The seller refers to the color of this bag as “shell”. From the photo “shell” looks to be in the ivory cream beige color range.

This is a leather bag with a tassel adornment hanging from one of the handle loops.

Bag is said to be roomy enough to carry your every day essential items.

Based on the handful of reviews left by customers on the Pure Collection website the bag is a nice quality but the color in reality is not as it appears in photos. One customer described the actual color as “an odd peach/pink” and another described the bag as having a “kind of darker dusky pinkish hue to it”.

The $9 475 outfit and some Bottega Veneta Hobo Bags

Yesterday I created a set on Polyvore with a skirt a top a jacket a pair of booties and a Bottega Veneta Medium Intrecciato Hobo Bag. The outfit combined for a total price tag of $9 475.

A friend of mine suggested to me that I should start writing out checks to myself on empty sheets of paper in the amounts I need to get the things I want. I don’t really want this $9 475 outfit that badly to be honest; but it would be interesting to get my hands on it just to put the stuff on and take a picture of myself in the outfit to see how it would look on me.

I’d be more interested in the picture than in the outfit itself. So for the sake of the picture I might write myself a check for $9 475 for the purchase of the items in the following set or who knows maybe I can find close enough items of similar design to put an outfit together for under $200 that looks much the same as this outfit.

Here’s an outfit I put together on Polyvore a short while ago to represent the outfit I would wear out today if I could just log into Polyvore create an outfit click a button and have that outfit appear in the air in front of me. How awesome would that be?

The Question

Should any item of clothing ever cost thousands of dollars?

I’d love to be able to write a thought provoking five thousand word essay on why I think no article of apparel should ever cost thousands of dollars but unfortunately I’m not that good at organizing my thoughts in essay format.

I get that the reason high end designer things cost the kind of money they cost is because there are people who are willing and able to pay that kind of money who won’t question why a pair of shoes cost over a thousand dollars or why a coat like the one featured in the set cost over $2,000. Take these Dolce & Gabbana ankle boots for example:

Okay so these boots are highly ornate. Does that justify the $1833 price tag the fact that these ankle boots have an ornate gold and bronze metallic embroidered design? If the gold is real gold then okay I’d say that as long as if you can take the gold decorations off and take them to a pawn shop and walk away with at least $1500 in cash the $1 883 price tag is justified. Otherwise why should these shoes cost more than a 60-Inch 1080p 240 Clear Motion Rate Slim LED Samsung UN60ES6100 just for an example? All the shoes can do is decorate your feet make you appear 4½ inches taller while you have them on your feet enhance your outfit. Shoes don’t offer any long term benefit. Far from that wearing high heel shoes often means subjecting yourself to pain and discomfort. At least with a tv you can watch a comedy and get some laughter out of your day or you can watch an educational program and learn something. You can create memories spending time with your family watching a movie or a ball game or whatever. There is the potential for benefit that is greater and more valuable than the benefit of having your ego boosted by knowing you’re wearing Dolce & Gabbana shoes and that you look good in your shoes and whatever outfit you’re wearing with the shoes.

I’m not knocking anybody for buying thousand dollar shoes. Some of these shoes are downright gorgeous and I get the impulse to pay any amount to own something you just totally love and want. I’m just asking what can shoes really do aside from decorate the feet and accentuate clothes; and when you consider that shoes can’t really do anything except maybe if you’re being attacked and somehow manage to get your spike heeled stiletto off and impale your attacker in the forehead how can you look at the above pair of Dolce & Gabbana shoes next to the Samsung  60 inch TV with their price tags visible and not go “wait a minute” why would a pair of shoes cost more than a 60 inch TV”?

Assuming the gold and bronze are not real let’s say you duplicate this shoe exactly same materials everything but it’s a knock-off and not the real Dolce & Gabbana. Suddenly the shoe is worthless.

She felt like animal rights activists weren’t always noble in their intentions. It wasn’t always about fighting for the rights of animals. Sometimes it was just about being bullies.

Amanda knew she couldn’t really go around voicing such a thought as that–suggesting that animal rights activism might sometimes be more a case of bullying than a case of the activist fighting for the rights of animals. But it was hard for her to believe people cared that much about the rights of snakes. She had a feeling that under the right circumstances these same people would have no objections whatsoever to the killing of snakes. If snakes were being killed for reasons not having to do with human consumption in any way, whether to be eaten by people who eat snake meat or to have their skin removed and used to make snakeskin merchandise, activists would not pay any attention to it whatsoever.

So Amanda was conflicted. Was it really wrong to buy a snakeskin wallet? Would it really be contributing to animal cruelty?
