BCBGMAXAZRIA MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK S/S15

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York Spring 2015 shows kick off today. I won’t pretend that my interest in fashion is such that I keep up with the fashion week events and all that. If the truth be told I find it a little bit difficult to take these things seriously; but this is a fashion blog and most of the people who stumble across this blog are people who really love fashion and do take it seriously. So I figured I’d try to follow some of it. Obviously watching a live stream of the events over the computer is not comparable to being there; but crowds freak me out anyway. So even if I’d somehow managed to get myself an opportunity to attend the event in person I probably wouldn’t have gone. Right now I am watching as people are arriving for the BCBGMAXAZRIA show.

So I watched a live stream of the BCBGMAXAZRIA show via newyorkfashionweeklive.com. For the most part I liked the pieces — very flowy and silky looking. There did seem to be a fair bit of cut out sides and fronts to accommodate cleavage exposure. I guess that is the objective of dressing these days?

The models all made it look tasteful because they are all so thin that it’s impossible for their show of cleavage to be obscene. So I guess if you are model-thin with very little in the way of a bosom these outfits are made for you. They were all quite lovely but on an ordinary body I wonder if they will look the same as on the models?

Richard Chai

In additon to the live stream of the BCBGMAXAZRIA Mercedes Benz Fashion Week s/S15 event I also saw a live stream of the Richard Chai show. I wasn’t familiar with the name Richard Chai before today. There were some interesting pieces. Nothing I necessarily felt like “wow, I want that” but I seldom have that reaction to anything. I sort of found the men’s collection more interesting than the women’s.

Nicholas K

I also had not heard of Nicholas K prior to watching the Nicholas K show today. I saw this one on rebroadcast ( a rebroadcast of the live stream ). Some of the pieces brought to mind hijabs. They were interesting. Lots of head scarves, military colors–army green, khaki…

So Yeah…

That was about as much time as I’ve ever been able to spend watching models strut up and down runways at fashion shows. I admit I used to be one of those people who saw this sort of thing as being a little on the meaningless side — the pomp and circumstance, the fuss and frenzy over clothes. I personally still don’t get excited about fashion events; but I have learned to respect other women’s right to love clothes and love fashion to the extent that so many do. I do have to give the models their due. These girls are very good at what they do. Yes, they are just strutting down a runway, but I know a thing or two about lacking the ability to walk confidently down a path while eyes are watching you. To walk the runway confidently in heels and do it elegantly — I have no doubt it requires some skill and talent that not everyone possesses. So all due credit to these girls.
