A trikini was once defined as a handkerchief and two small saucers. Nowadays, the word is synonym to très chic three-pieces swimsuit. The design was first conceived at the end of the ’60s and it’s still considered very trendy.
A variation on the bikini in which three pieces are sold together, consisting in a bikini with a tank top or a bikini with a one-piece suit, is sometimes called a trikini.
If you are looking for a scandalous design, you should check out Dolce & Gabbana‘s design for the Summer of 2005 that consisted in three pieces of scintillating fabric that barely cover the body. You can buy a chic black model here, for $334.
Israeli designer Gideon Oberson calls a two-piece model designed by him a trikini. The model consists of a tank top and a skirt or a pair of shorts. You can check out his designs here.

Now, many swimsuit companies from all around the world are entering the monokini era by creating incredible designs that cover your body and are neither cheap or slutty. Depending on the cut, please note that most of the times a trikini works best for a day at the spa and not for sunbathing on the beach, unless you want a strange-shaped tan.
If you have small breats make sure to buy one with a push-up bra. If you have a large waist consider buying a different type of swimsuit. If you have large hips make sure you buy a trikini that has a wide bikini bottom.
