Tuesday Morning November 18th 2014

It’s a pretty bright and sunny Tuesday morning out here in the mid-west. Funny how the brightest and sunniest day in a while also happens to be the coldest so far for the season. It’s 17 degrees right now. Was 8 degrees when I woke up. But it’s not cold inside which is good so no complaints. I started my morning fashioning a dress out of some not terribly pretty or suitable for clothing fabric.

The dress is mostly just pinned onto the mannequin. I did sew it together in some places; but for the most part what you see is just cloth pinned onto the mannequin to make a dress.

It started out as just a skirt

What I originally attempted was a skirt; but then I had an idea to do a matching top as well so I removed the orange shirt I had put on the mannequin and started with a strip of cloth for a top. At some point while trying to create a top directly on the mannequin I decided on a fitted mini dress instead.

With a turquoise belt

The fabric I’m using feels more like it is for making heavy drapes or tablecloths and things of that sort. It would definitely not make for a comfortable dress. The material is rough and coarse.

With a red ribbon

I think a pink belt would have worked nicely with this dress since the floral detail is pink embroidery; but I did not have a pink belt. I also think a broad belt would be a better option than a skinny belt.

An alternate style

A longer fitted pencil style dress without any sleeves. If you buy into the idea that after a certain age women shouldn’t wear mini dresses then this style would probably be more “age appropriate” if you’re of traditional maternal age. I think so-called traditional maternal age is 25 and above; but you can probably get excused if you’re under 35 as long as you don’t have children.
